The direct answer

No. It documents employment conditions; you still need an eligible expense, an unreimbursed cost where required and supporting records. The employer’s certification is not approval of every item on your claim. Your preparer must match the expenses to the rules for your work arrangement, rather than enter a single total from a spreadsheet without checking its contents.

Read the employer's conditions

Check whether the completed form accurately describes your arrangement. Required travel, supplies and workspace expenses should be considered against the duties and conditions recorded by the employer. Keep a copy of the form for the year being filed. A previous year's form may not describe a new job, changed reimbursement policy or different work pattern.

Build the claim from actual records

A signed T2200 is not a receipt and does not establish the amount of an expense. Match the claimed costs with invoices, usage records and any reimbursements. Put uncertain items on a review list. This allows the preparer to assess the category and calculation without treating every purchase made during the work year as an employment deduction.

What to gather before the review

  • Completed T2200 for the relevant year
  • Receipts and business-use calculations
  • Employer expense policy and reimbursements

Can I estimate a deduction from the T2200 alone?

No. The form documents employment conditions. The expenses still need to meet the applicable rules and be supported by a reasonable calculation and records of the actual costs.

Your next step

Get the completed T2200 and separate your receipts into vehicle, supplies, travel and other categories.
