The direct answer
Some programs qualify when their primary purpose is child care that enables an eligible activity such as working, running a business or studying. A sports or arts label does not settle the answer. Separate care from tuition, lessons and recreational costs; overnight programs have additional limits. Keep a proper receipt identifying the provider and services, rather than only a card-payment confirmation.
Read what the program actually provides
Keep the program description alongside the receipt. A camp may combine supervision, instruction, meals and activities, so its name alone tells the preparer very little. Record why care was needed, the dates attended and whether the program involved overnight stays. This gives the preparer a useful starting point for separating potentially eligible care from other costs.
Ask for a detailed receipt early
A bank transaction usually shows who received money, but may not identify the child, care dates or services. Request those details while the provider can still retrieve them easily. Where siblings attended or a fee was refunded, organize the amounts by child. Keep the original receipt and the correction together instead of silently editing the total.
What to gather before the review
- Program description and dates of attendance
- Receipts identifying the child and provider
- Refunds, subsidies and the care-related activity of each parent
Does a sports camp automatically fail the test?
No. The relevant question is whether the program meets the child-care requirements. Describe the services and family circumstances rather than accepting or rejecting the claim solely because sport appears in the camp's name.
Your next step
Ask the provider for the dates, child’s name, care component and required provider information on a receipt.
