The direct answer

No. CRA considers the effects of a severe and prolonged impairment, rather than accepting every diagnosis automatically. An authorized medical practitioner certifies the relevant limitations and CRA decides eligibility. This is a non-refundable credit, not a monthly payment. Depending on the approval and circumstances, prior-year adjustments or a transfer to a supporting family member may be possible.

Prepare a description of daily limitations

A diagnosis names a condition, while the application asks how the impairment affects qualifying activities. Before speaking with the medical practitioner, make a factual timeline of limitations, their duration and the help needed. Use ordinary examples from daily life. Do not exaggerate or write answers aimed at a guaranteed approval; accurate functional information is more useful.

Read the approval period carefully

If approval is received, keep the letter and check the years it covers. Do not assume every earlier return has automatically changed or every supporting relative can claim a transfer. Bring the relevant assessments for review. If the application is still pending, record that status clearly rather than treating the credit as already approved.

What to gather before the review

  • Relevant medical-practitioner information
  • Any CRA approval or denial letter
  • Assessments for years being considered for adjustment

Is the disability tax credit a monthly payment?

No. It is a non-refundable tax credit. Other programs may use disability-credit eligibility, but those programs have their own conditions and should be considered separately from the income-tax claim.

Your next step

Bring any existing approval letter and ask the appropriate practitioner about completing the functional information accurately.
