An amended slip is a reason to compare records, not to file an entirely new original return. First confirm which slip it replaces, whether CRA has already reassessed the change, and whether the revised figures affect other parts of your return.
Compare the original, amendment, and assessment
CRA permits changes to reported income, deductions, credits, and missing information after issuing the notice of assessment. If a change request is already outstanding, wait for its response before submitting another request for the same return.
Build a small comparison: original slip amounts, amended amounts, figures actually filed, and figures currently assessed. This helps distinguish a real outstanding correction from a change CRA has already processed. It also prevents counting the original and amended slip together.

Look beyond the refund difference
For example, a corrected investment slip may change the type of income without changing the cash received. Your preparer needs the box-by-box change, rather than just the new slip's total. A revised employment slip may also affect deductions or credits calculated from income.
Keep one clear adjustment file
- Save both versions of the slip and identify the amended one.
- Include the filed return and latest assessment or reassessment.
- Note whether you or anyone else has already requested changes.
- Record the submission date and reference number for the adjustment.
Use the available CRA adjustment service, certified software where supported, or the applicable paper process. Read the reassessment when it arrives and check that it reflects the intended changes. If you disagree with the assessment itself, review objection deadlines separately; a routine amendment request should not be treated as a substitute for protecting those rights.
